Re:                   Connecticut PTSA Scholarships

Date:                January 2012

We are pleased to announce the Connecticut PTSA scholarship award. This award is in memory of Christa McAuliffe, first teacher in space.  This award, in the amount of $1,000.00, will be presented to a graduating senior from a PTA/PTSA High School.  Presentation of the award will be during the Connecticut PTSA State Awards Dinner on Friday evening, April 27, 2012, at Fantasia, North Haven.

The student must be planning to attend a four-year college to pursue a career in teaching.

The essay topic for the award answers the question, “What is your reason for entering the teaching profession”. The essay should be limited to one standard page.

The PTA/PTSA Unit President and Guidance Counselor and/or Principal are asked to select ONE applicant per high school to be considered for the Connecticut PTSA Scholarship.  If more than one application is received, the FIRST application received will be considered.  No facsimiles or e-mails will be accepted.

The application is attached.  Please duplicate this form for distribution to interested seniors.

The funding sources for this award are through Connecticut PTSA’s Life Achievement Award (LAA) and private donations.  For more information about honoring someone in your school community with a Connecticut PTSA LAA, contact the Connecticut PTSA Office at (203) 281-6617.

All completed applications are due in the Connecticut PTSA office no later than the close of business on MARCH 31, 2012.

Remember also that the Nutmeg Statewide PTA offers a scholarship to a student who will be pursuing a career in service to children.

Good luck to each of your candidates!
