103rd Annual Convention Wrap Up

"Facing the Future Together" - 103rd Annual ConventionChild advocates from around the state enjoyed workshops, exhibitor booths, keynote speakers and many networking opportunities at the CT PTA 103rd Annual Convention!

CT PTA was thrilled to have Linda Hodge, National PTA President Elect, in attendance. Linda is the first Connecticut PTA member to be elected to the National PTA presidency and celebrating her success at convention was especially exciting for all. CT PTA was also especially pleased to have Puppetranz as a special sponsor.

The “Reach for the Stars!” Reflections Awards Banquet kicked off the convention with 250+ students, family members and PTA members in attendance on Thursday evening Sixty-one student winners were awarded ribbons and certificates for their winning entries in Literature, Musical Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Connecticut PTA was proud to announce that three students were also National PTA Award Recipients. Special recognition goes to Lena Crane of John Read Middle School (Redding), Max Schwear of Redding Elementary and Yossi Khorman-Glaser of Middle Gate School (Newtown) for placing on the National level!

Friday began with the exhibit hall and workshops. Kick off at General Session included the Pledge of Allegiance with students from Elizabeth Ives School who offer invaluable assistance to the state office. Kristen Klemeshesky sang the National Anthem and Waterbury Boy Scouts proudly presented the American and Connecticut flags.

Lunch was highlighted by the presentation of the President’s Award to Hartford Hospital and inspiring words from motivational speaker David LaManna.

Friday night’s “Celebration of Educational Success” was held in honor of Linda Hodge and included a proclamation from Governor Rowland along with entertainment from the Connecticut Ballet. The fun carried into the Spirit of PTA Gala where 18 honorees were celebrated for their embodiment of the essence of PTA -- "every child. one voice." Keith Alan Productions "got the party started" with dance music and fun and games for over 150 in attendance. Feedback indicated that it was one of the most fun and inspiring galas in CT PTA history!

With exhibit time, workshops, Honorary Life Membership reception, General Session II, the Installation of the State Board Directors and presentation of Nutmeg and CT PTA scholarships, Saturday was another full and rewarding day for attendees.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who make this convention a grand success with their hard work, full effort and valuable time. This convention is an event for those volunteers who truly support the "every child. one voice" philosophy!
