State Capitol in Hartford, Connecticut

With a strong united voice we can make ourselves heard, and our votes count!

AGENDA

The day will begin at our headquarters (in Hamden) at 8:30 AM where you will be treated to a continental breakfast.  We will then board a chartered bus and travel to the State Capitol in Hartford where, in partnership with the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) and the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS), we will hear from key legislators on what is happening “On the Hill” in Hartford.

Education Funding Rally
You will then have an opportunity to participate in a rally and press conference on educational advocacy issues.

Legislative Forum
Following the press conference Patrice McCarthy and Shelia MacKay who work for CABE and are professional lobbyists will join us in a private room. You will hear practical, as well as candid advice on what works and what doesn’t when lobbying.

Visits with Legislators
Following the forum each of you will have the opportunity to meet with your own State Representative and Senator to lobby and advocate your position on important issues. CT PTA leaders will be on hand to walk you through this whole process, should you want any company or assistance. This is where you will be able to use the tactics and knowledge gained in the forum in a real-life situation; and you’ll be pleased to see just how effective you can be at making points and influencing your legislators.

Legislative Reception
The day will end with a Legislative Reception hosted by CABE and CAPSS where we will be able to enter into individual as well as group discussions with peers and invited Legislators while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and a variety of beverages in a relaxed setting. We will reboard our chartered bus at approximately 5:45 PM and should be back at our Hamden office (and our cars) by 6:30 PM
