Why is liability insurance necessary?

PTA is a private, nonprofit association - a business - a legal entity. It is accountable for its actions, and when it conducts its activities, it:

1) must conduct the safest, best managed activities possible -- appropriately supervised and within the scope of the expertise of the PTA, and

2) must provide adequate protection for the public against the actions of the PTA in the event an accident happens at the activity.

This responsibility exposes the PTA and its leadership to an element of risk in the event an accident or incident takes place at a PTA activity. When an accident or incident takes place, there is the possibility that the PTA (and, perhaps its officers and directors) could be named in a lawsuit.

General liability insurance shifts the potential risks to the insurance company, thus protecting the PTA.

Who is the Insurance Carrier?

The Connecticut PTA Board of Directors did extensive research to locate an insurance company that would provide the most comprehensive insurance coverage at very competitive rates. Armstrong & Robitaille is the company that our Board of Directors selected.

Armstrong & Robitaille are offering 2 options to our units which provide more extensive coverage at an affordable price. PTAs are required to take all three coverage's.
