Arts in Education ProgramsMake Art a Part of Your Child's World It's both an important tool for learning as well as a basic part of human nature–as old as the paintings drawn on the walls of caves by our early ancestors. Art is not an educational "frill." [ Top ]

Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence National PTA provides a program to bring well-deserved recognition to good school partnerships through a Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence certification. Schools that uphold the highest standards of parent involvement will receive this designation of excellence. We’ll also be presenting a Recognition of Commitment to schools that participate but do not reach the “excellence” designation, with the expectation that they will continue to work toward becoming Schools of Excellence. As of January, 2003, thirty-six schools, representing 20 states, have been recognized for their outstanding achievements in getting parents actively involved in their children's education. We hope that you are as proud as we are to have these schools as the first parent involvement schools of excellence! National PTA has awarded 31 schools the Certification of Excellence for having the highest standards in parent involvement. These schools have the distinction of being named a National PTA Parent Involvement School of Excellence. Additionally, five schools received the Recognition of Commitment for being committed to pursuing excellence in parent involvement-with the expectation of becoming a School of Excellence. This program is a great tool to use to promote parent involvement to a higher level of importance and recognition in your state! Consider writing a story about a certified school for your state PTA newsletter/magazine; pitching the story to your media contacts; recognizing certified school(s) on your website; promoting success stories to PTAs, schools, principals, and/or superintendents in your state; collecting testimonials from school(s) in your state that have been recognized; or recognizing certified school(s) at your state PTA convention. This is such a great opportunity for PTA to help increase opportunities for every child by creating Schools of Excellence! Spread the word!
