A WORD ABOUT FUNDRAISING:
National PTA policy states that "children should
never be exploited or used as fundraisers."
Children should focus on learning and building social
skills while they are in school and should not be expected to shoulder
the financial burden for what is supposed to be a free, quality public
education.
Increasingly, parents are being asked to take on that
task. We urge parents to take advantage of PTA advocacy and leadership
training workshops so that they can participate in the
decision-making about how schools are funded.
We recognize that some fundraising
efforts may always be necessary, but it should not be a parent's primary
way of being involved with the school. |
